I'm not saying "Happy Holidays" to be PC. I say "Merry Christmas" all the time too. But right now, I am writing for a global audience from all faiths and beliefs. So I definitely want everyone to be merry right now!
One of the coolest things about Hive is that it makes the world a little smaller. I don't use any other social media so when I come on here and see pictures from hivers from India, Poland, Venezuela, Korea, China, The Ukraine, Mexico, Spain, Australia, Japan, Canada, The Middle East, Africa (OK hopefully you get the point I'm trying to include everyone) I get a glimpse at what some of the other 8.23 billion people are doing around the world.
Yeah I happen to celebrate Christmas like 1/4 of the population, but that doesn't just mean I want only those 2.3 billion people to be happy today, tomorrow... and forever. Joy, happiness, and wishing that people feel that way isn't pie. We aren't going to run out. If I want you to be happy, it doesn't mean less happiness for me. In fact, knowing others are happy actually increases my happiness. Not only is it not a zero sum game, the pool of happiness is exponential. More happiness for others means more happiness for me. Damn it I am super selfish!
Because happiness is not a scarce resource that we can run out of, I look for any excuse I can to be happy and to wish others the same. So although none of these are happening right now, I'd like to wish early/late happiness to everyone who celebrates...
New Years Eve/Day! Ok this is an easy one. It's the one day where all 8.23 billion of us can get on the same page and look forward to the future.
Eid al-Fitr! 1.9 billion people will be celebrating this day. I hope their joy spreads to the other 6 billion.
Chinese New Year! 2026 will be the Year of the Fire Horse! How cool does that sound. 1.5 billion will celebrate that. Luckily, there is still plenty of joy to go around.
Diwali! If you have ever seen pictures of this holiday, I hope they filled you with joy like they do for the 1.3 billion people who celebrate it.
Hanukkah! Although relatively small compared to the other holidays here, there is a large population of people in my area who celebrate this holiday. I hope they enjoy it and some of their joy spills over to my entire community.
And these are just a few of those holidays. I couldn't mention them all but what I can do is wish everyone happiness on their favorite holiday.
And today I can say Merry Christmas to everyone!
