A Christian life is truly a prayerful life. As I look at my relationship with God I see that I need to pray on a daily basis and not just when I feel like it. Through prayer I communicate with God, confide my problems and thank God for all. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, the Bible instructs us to pray constantly. A reminder to me that prayer is to be a life habit and not just when I have issues.
In my personal life, there was a period when I was pretty bewildered and stressed out. I had lots of cares in my heart, but I was not praying much at all. I only quickly prayed and got on with my day. One night I was feeling very heavy inside and I set out to pray very slowly and honestly, telling God everything. Following that prayer, I was filled with a peacefulness that I did not know. It was as though God was saying don't be afraid. I realized during that time the true strength of prayer.
Jesus also showed us the importance of prayer. The Bible tells us in Luke 5:16, “But Jesus often went aside to pray. Since Jesus took time to pray, I have to take time to pray in my own life. Prayer brings me strength, humility and closeness to God.
I have also been taught that prayer is not just for requests, it is also for the purpose of relationship with God. I just pray at times to thank Him for his life, for his protection, for his mercy. In the book of Philippians I am told in verse 6 that I am not to be anxious but am to bring all things to God in prayer.
To sum up, I think it is impossible to live a Christian life without prayer. Prayer helps me to keep my heart in God and helps, even during the hard times, with peace. I want to live a life of prayer daily, to trust God in all that I do.
