We were a little late putting them up this year. We were maybe a week behind our normal schedule. But last weekend we pulled everything out of the closets and from under the staircase and got everything sorted and placed.
They are the same decorations each year (obviously) so you might have seen these all before. Nonetheless I'm going to show you our ornaments and decor anyways.
I started with the Christmas lights outside. This year they were a little harder to out up given the early onset of winter and just how cold it was outside.
I bundled up and got them all hung in a few hours on Saturday.
Outdoor lights are more for your neighbors then yourself but I like how they shine through our foyer windows. I also like that I can see my neighbors lights from our living room as well, so maybe those same neighbors appreciate our lights from their home? If not, I'm sure all of the people walking their dog enjoy them.
We have a collection of authentic German smokers which are our favorite Christmas ornaments and among our favorite travel souveniers in general. We collected them over several years when we were living in Europe.
The vintage pottery Christmas tree is a relatively new addition and its a nice piece for the nostalgia factor. My grandma had one when I was a kid.
We have three main German smokers and one additional small one that my wife got from work one year, which she really likes.
The white pottery Christmas trees are also a new addition. We bought them last year at a seasonal pottery show held in a neighboring town. We try and go every year and tend to buy a new tree each time.
Our Danish monkey always gets a Santa hat this time of year, just for fun.
I can't even remember where we bought this gnome. It was either in France or just a random store here in Canada. Its kind of "whatever," but its festive.
The tree was the last thing to go up. We don't do a real tree. We got this one from my wifes grandparents. Its still in pretty good shape.
I feel like the new led Christmas lights are nothing like the old incandescent ones that we had as a kid. They really don't have the same look. They seem less bright and less effective than they used to. What do you think? Do you notice that as well?
