As I made my way along the trail, I passed by stunning honey-colored stone cottages that looked like they were plucked straight from a storybook. Many of these homes date back to the 17th century and are indicative of the region's rich history in wool production. I couldn’t help but stop to admire the intricate stonework and the well-kept gardens that adorned each property.
I stopped for a break near a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the Vale of Evesham, where I met a friendly couple who were also hiking the trail. They shared their experiences of visiting various historical sites along the Cotswold Way, including the ancient ruins of Belas Knap, a Neolithic long barrow that dates back to around 3000 BC. It was fascinating to hear how they combined their love for hiking with a passion for history, something I can definitely relate to!
Continuing my walk, I wandered through the charming village of Broadway, known for its stunning high street lined with shops and cafes. I popped into a local tea shop and enjoyed a slice of traditional Victoria sponge while chatting with the owner about the village's history. She shared stories about the arts and crafts movement that flourished here in the early 20th century, attracting notable figures like the painter Edward Burne-Jones.
As I made my way back, I was struck by the peacefulness of the landscape, the rolling hills dotted with sheep, and the golden light of the late afternoon sun.
