Who is a disciple of Christ?
A disciple of Christ is someone who learns from Him and obeys His teachings. To be a true disciple, we must not only study what Christ taught but also live according to His commands.
If we do not practice His teachings, then we cannot truly call ourselves His disciples. The English dictionary defines a disciple as a person who learns from and follows the instructions of a teacher.
In Matthew 28:19–20, Jesus commanded His followers to go into all nations and teach the people, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He also instructed them to teach others to observe everything He had commanded and promised to be with them always, even to the end of the world.
From this scripture, we understand that discipleship involves both teaching and learning. It is not enough to hear the word; we must be taught properly and be willing to learn and obey what we are taught.
Acts 11:26 tells us that Paul and Barnabas taught many people in Antioch for a whole year, and it was there that the disciples were first called Christians.
From these passages, we learn that to be a true disciple of Christ, one must continually learn His teachings and doctrines and faithfully follow them in both actions and character.
