The Thief on the Cross || MGCI Topic Review
The story of the thief on the cross is among the most touching moments in the Bible. This is a story that I always remember whenever I am reminded that God is infinite in mercy.
Jesus was crucified in between two robbers, both of them guilty and both deserving death according to the law. One of them was mocking Jesus but the other thief was humble and faithful in his words.
This robber confessed and acknowledged the fact that he merited the punishment he was going through. Then turning to Jesus he said "Lord, remember me when thou cometh into thy kingdom", with these words, there was recognition of a strong faith in Jesus even when Jesus appeared weak and helpless on the cross.
Jesus responded in a gracious and loving manner, he said to the thief "Today, you will be with me in paradise". This is a lesson that it is not the many years of good deeds that one can achieve salvation but by real repentance and faith.
Every person is hopeful in this story. It is never too late to repent and go to God no matter how far one had gone in sin. The mercy of God is never far away to anyone who approach Him with a pure heart.
