…because I enjoyed every bit of the day.
I started the day as early as 5 am, did my morning devotion and danced to celebrate the beautiful season. After I was done, I quickly created a short video to wish everyone a Merry Christmas with some encouragement and shared it on my WhatsApp status.
When it was almost 7 am, I rushed into the kitchen to start preparing Christmas rice and chicken for the day. Everything was done on time because I didn’t want to be late for the Church program, which was starting at 10 am. Fortunately, I was on time with the whole preparation and off to church to celebrate with others.
The service ended two hours later, and everyone departed to enjoy their Christmas meal. I invited some kids and a young girl to my house to celebrate with me; I also got invited by a member to come celebrate with them, including my Pastor, who invited every member to come around, too. I felt so happy because I would be eating to my fill today.
I did all I could do at home and after I was done, the kids and I decided to go to the member who invited me first.
I was careful not to eat too much food from home as I knew I would be served at their place, and it wouldn’t be good for me to turn down their meal with an excuse that I had eaten from home. That could mean something else to them, you know? But for me, it’s Christmas and I won’t be leaving anything behind on a day like this.
After almost an hour or so, I left their place and dashed off to my Pastor’s place. But at this time, I was already filled up and I knew nothing would make me eat anything again.
I got there and was asked if I would eat and swallow food; how I wish I hadn’t eaten anything already, because it was my favourite swallow (pounded yam with melon soup) they offered me. But I explained where I was coming from and that I was already filled. They gave me a drink and after a short while, I left their place because I was feeling sleepy and tired.
I had stress myself today since I woke up. Imagine preparing a meal to serve more than 12 people, because I also shared it with some of my neighbours. I was very happy when they gave their reviews of my food. I never thought I could make such a quantity of food and there wasn't anything like the seasonings are too much or that it was salty or the common one; the pepper isn’t enough, which could have made the food tasteless.
I got home with the hope of sleeping for a while but ended up just lying on my bed and scrolling through my WhatsApp status and watching YouTube videos. In the end, I stood up to take a stroll outside before coming back inside to take a shower because it had been a long day. But it was an amazing time spent with other people and this Christmas is the best for me.
I spoke with my family via video call, and I am glad they enjoyed the Christmas celebration with me. Now, what’s next? Christmas will be over in a few hours, and work activities will begin on the 27th. And by next Thursday, we will be welcoming a new year.
That was how my day went. I wish us a great new year in advance.
