The history of NOWPayments is a story of how a small group of crypto fans wanted to make it easier for businesses to use digital money.
A long time ago (in "crypto years"), a company called ChangeNOW was already famous for helping people swap one digital coin for another. In 2019, the people behind that company decided to start a new project called NOWPayments.
They had a simple goal: they wanted every store in the world to be able to accept Bitcoin as easily as they take a credit card.
At first, the app only worked with a few coins. But the team worked very hard to add more tools:
By its 4th birthday in 2023, NOWPayments was working with over 160 different coins. They also started a "World Tour" to meet store owners in different countries and show them how digital money works.
By 2025, they were named the "Best Crypto Payment Gateway" by a big magazine called Forbes. They had grown from a tiny idea to a giant system that helps over 10,000 businesses all over the world.
Now, the company is 7 years old. They have processed over $10 billion in payments! They are currently working on ways to make digital payments even faster using things like the Lightning Network (which we talked about earlier) so that buying a snack with Bitcoin is as fast as a "tap" with a phone.
