Most of what I wrote here was about cryptocurrency and trading. I'd throw an occasional trip and some op ed in the mix from to time. While trading market cycles, I was just sitting on my hands for the most part. Not trading took a lot away from my weekly crypto rants and raves. Well, I'm back baby!
I'm going to restart this blog with a rant and rave! First off, let me vent a little about the Coinbase wallet.
Please excuse my frankness. But What the FUCK! Are you kidding me?
So I log into Coinbase the other night to withdraw some crypto and fund another trading account. When I go to withdraw I discover I now have to use the Coinbase Wallet App to withdraw coins. OK, no big deal. I was being a bit lazy and super stoned so I decided to leave it for another day. That day was today.
So this afternoon I set out to install the Coinbase Wallet App. I don't like having anything crypto related on my phone with the exception of 2FA apps. I do this for security reasons. I decide to get the Coinbase Wallet Extension for my web browser.
I download the extension, backup the seed phrase, and the 3 coins I want to transfer aren't listed. That's completely unacceptable. Apparently the only way to get them off is to sell them. Coinbase is making a LOT OF MONEY, this is unacceptable. The old system worked just fine. Why would they do this? It has to be for some legal reason, but honestly, I felt like suing them after the fact. OK, maybe I'm being a bit of a Karen, but seriously, WHY?
Is it just me, or is crypto getting more and more complicated? Seriously, the goal was to make it easier for people not harder! This is a rant for another day, but increasingly it seems everything in the industry is becoming more complicated. This is not how mass adoption takes root! Again, a rant for another day.
So after completely losing my mind and screaming at my computer screen, I decide to purchase some coins that were listed and I'd transfer those. I click the Coinbase Wallet extension I pinned to my browser bar and when I click on option to transfer my coins I get some weird error about an expired token. For fuck sake guys! This is a terrible first impression!
At this point, I completely give up on the browser extension and remove it from my computer. What an absolute disaster!
Seriously, I've never been a huge fan of Coinbase, but this is ridiculous. I'm to the point that I absolutely hate American exchanges now! I have from the start, but this is completely unacceptable.
I wanted to see if it was just me so I asked Brave browser Ai if Coinbase Wallet was a joke? Here is an excerpt.
The fact that they excluded XRP support is ludicrous. It has one of the lowest tx fees. Why would you omit that. The wallet looks like a half hearted lazy attempt at something... I don't even have the words. What a shit show. It's almost like they don't care about the end user.
Here's what Ai says about its valuation:
Coinbase Global (COIN) has a market capitalization of approximately $69.57 billion as of January 14, 2026, based on its stock price of $258.00 and 269.64 million shares outstanding. The company's enterprise value is $66.15 billion.
I honestly expect WAY MORE from a company with that kind of valuation. Coinbase if you ever read this, you're better than this. SHAME ON YOU!
After getting completely disgusted by the Coinbase Wallet Extension, I remembered an old Ethereum wallet I had a little dust in. I never transferred it because the Gas fees were too much. I was shocked to discover that I could now transfer about $30 worth of Ethereum for around .09 cents. WOW. I never thought I'd see the day. I don't know if I got lucky with my timing, but I'm really happy with that. I used the online MEW wallet. The transaction was fast as hell too. Completely blown away.
Gas fees were always my biggest gripe with Ethereum. I may have to look back into that one now. I will say this though.... IT'S ABOUT TIME ETHEREUM!
Well, I got a rant and rave in for this week. Thanks for reading. More trading and crypto talk coming soon!
