Christmas has come and gone, and to tell you the truth, it was a light period. Not only that but even in crypto markets; everything about this period was low-key.
Many people expected a Santa rally. This is almost common every year. Or at least people think it should happen. End-of-the-year holidays bring positive sentiment and green candles. Some people had already talked about December’s strong close. But what happened was that the market started trending negatively days before Christmas. Red candles appeared at a time when no one wanted them. But then, at a time when market sentiment was low, came a little taste of green. This was no big deal. Just a little teaser. After that, markets became flat again for most of the day. No heat in terms of market upside volatility, no hard fall either. Just markets doing nothing at all.
That’s pretty much summed up my Christmas as well.
There was no elaborate celebration at home either. None of that fanfare and heavy cooking and extensive menu. We just stayed indoors the whole day. We had rice and fried chicken and plantains to eat. It was no fuss and nothing special to share to the world but it suited us just fine.
It’s been a tough year for lots of people, and it doesn’t feel like that gets mentioned enough. People always expect the fix to show up in December. Like, Christmas is just going to solve all problems. Like, it’s going to bring happiness, money, fun. But sometimes, December just shows up to remind us about all the problems we have been dealing with all the year.
Then something small but magical happened that completely shifted the tone of the day for me.
My ten year old daughter surprised me with a gift for Christmas. It was a box of pineapple juice. It may not mean much to you if you are reading this, but trust me; it meant a lot to me. It is the first time my daughter has ever given me a gift. She is only a kid; and kids of her age are not known to think of buying gifts for their parents.
As soon as she handed it to me, the first thing I asked was where she had gotten the money. She told me that she has been saving it from the money that I give them when they go to school daily. She said she has been saving it so that she could buy something for Christmas. That really caught me off guard.
In that moment matter, crypto didn’t matter. Market volatility didn’t matter. No Santa Rally, no green candle, no pump could compare to that feeling. At times, we become so caught up in the importance of expectations that we often find ourselves forgetting what matters most.
This Christmas was not loud. It was not exciting. There was no major market action or Santa rally to celebrate, and, in the same manner, no family feast for me to indulge in. However, the little we had was real and peaceful. It just made me realize that not all good things must necessarily be accompanied by noise. Perhaps this Christmas season was not about the fun or the accomplishments. Maybe it’s simply a year to learn to slow down and enjoy the little things and simply get through another year. Honestly, that’s good enough for me at this present moment.
