I was spoiled for choice for the first day of this challenge. Would I use Abba or Bryan Adams? The mysterious Avicii or Alexander Rybak? In the end, I chose the following two acts plus a bonus song that's been going through my head this week.
Arvelaiz - Que Locura Enamorarme de Ti
A beautiful ballad about a young, handsome doctor working at a convent, this is a stunning story by itself. Arvelaiz's voice is perfectly suited to this kind of musical poetry.
Avecii - Levels
I enjoy this song and the video as all kinds of ordinary people are suddenly found themselves drawn to dance for seemingly no reason at all.
It seems strange that the lyrics don't even enter the song until 1:20 into the song - and mostly as a bridge rather than as a main feature of the song.
The contagious nature of the "affliction" makes you think both of a zombie apocalypse as well as the current events of Covid-19.
It is sad that Avicii is no longer with us, he had a lot to share.
Aronchupa - I'm an Albatraoz
(Lyric warning...)
I heard this song in Zumba (the cleaner version). I learned the dance for it and this quickly became one of my favorites - despite the fact the "mouse" has my name! Even learning the original version - including the potentially offensive lyrics - didn't dampen my enthusiasm for the song. To me, the song is more about the sounds and beat than anything else.
And there you have it - three songs of differing styles for my letter A.
