Hi Frens! Welcome to the world of Aavegotchi.
What is an Aavegotchi?!
Aavegotchi is a Tamagotchi-inspired pet collectible game.
You get to pet them, which builds Kinship.
You get to play games with them (in the upcoming Metaverse release) which earns XP, and very soon, exclusive badges.
You can obtain items to dress up your Gotchi for higher Rarity Farm Rewards.
As well as many other things to look forward to in the near future.
But there is a lot more to them than meets the eye. Here are some quick gems.
Each Aavegotchi is an NFT.
Which means these digital pets live directly on a blockchain. They are provably scarce, unique and not easily deleted, meaning they will live forever unless you choose to destroy it.
Each Aavegotchi is a digital yield generating piggy bank.
To even summon an Aavegotchi through a Portal, maTokens must be staked within each Aavegotchi. They cannot exist without them.
maTokens are Matic Aave Tokens are yield generating tokens through DeFi protocol Aave: https://aave.com/
Thanks to Aave, these tokens inside that Aavegotchi will earn you interest over time.
The Aavegotchi game is governed by a DAO; not a company.
How the game evolves is decided by us, the community.
Game revenue (e.g. portal sales) flows into the DAO treasury, and how that money is used follows transparent rules which are decided by the community.
Getting Started
If you are new to the Aavegotchi Realm or web3 in general and you'd like to explore.
A solid first step would be to download a Metamask Wallet: https://metamask.io/
Aavegotchi exists on Polygon (Matic Network), a sidechain of Ethereum's, where transactions cost fractions of a penny: https://matic.network/
To access the network you need to create a Custom RPC within Metamask that will allow you to sign in and connect: https://docs.matic.network/docs/develop/metamask/config-matic/

There are multiple ways to bridge funds from Ethereum's Network over to Matic Network (Polygon).
Though personally being from North America, I have found there are limited options.
I will do my best to describe the way I go about aquiring GHST, though there may be better options already or soon enough.
Metamask
Each Metamask account has a unique wallet address.
Through Metamask you can connect and view web3 Dapps like Aavegotchi's. It acts as your blockchain username & web3 account.
To access the network you need, create a Custom RPC within Metamask that will allow you to sign in and connect: https://docs.matic.network/docs/develop/metamask/config-matic/
Network Name: Matic Mainnet
New RPC URL: https://rpc-mainnet.maticvigil.com/
Chain ID: 137
Symbol: MATIC
Block Explorer URL: https://explorer.matic.network/
You'll notice that if you have any funds on Metamask that exist on Ethereum's Blockchain, they will only appear when Ethereum Mainnet RPC is selected.
We need to bridge any currency on Ethereum that we'd like to use on Polygon, once there they will likewise only appear using the Matic Mainnet RPC.
It is very easy to switch to and from with just a couple clicks of the mouse.
Ethereum
Any blockchain transaction needs a payment in that networks native token.
While on Ethereum you'll notice that you must pay fees in Ethereum.
On Polygon we must pay fees in Matic.
The only reason you truly need ETH first is to pay the gas fee needed to bridge currency to Polygon.
But great news. Once there, pennies worth of Matic will get you thousands of transactions.
This is the main reason multiple Dapps are moving to Polygon, or other scalability solutions, like mad. It's the place to be.
There are ways to purchase Ethereum using a Credit or Debit card through a decentralized exchange like Uniswap: https://uniswap.org/
BUT, if you have access to an exchange like Coinbase, I would recommend utilizing this service to avoid high gas fees as they are somewhat unpredictable.
Once you have purchased Ethereum through Coinbase, you must send it off of the exchange into your Metamask wallet using the specific wallet address for the desired account.
This will cost a network fee, but it is normally well below what you'd pay in ETH Gas fees on a high volume day.
With ETH in your account you are ready to bridge it to Polygon using Matic's Bridge: https://wallet.matic.network/bridge
A few minutes later and you'll be set!
Polygon
When you first bridge funds to Polygon a fractional amount of MATIC should show up within your account, good for your first thousand transactions.
You will always need MATIC within your account, so make sure you always have a small amount.
If for some reason you find yourself in need of any to move things around, try this site: https://matic.supply/
Though only if you need to!
GHST Token
GHST is Aavegotchi's native token. A token that has had a lot of thought put into it.
While most Dapp currencies become solely backed by the community in time, GHST is actually tied to what is called a DAI Bonding Curve.
Here is a good resource for learning more about Bonding Curves if anyone is interested: https://yos.io/2018/11/10/bonding-curves/
Voting Power
There are multiple uses for GHST through Aavegotchi's Dapp.
One of the most important has everything to do with the influence you can have as a holder utilizing your GHST as voting power: https://snapshot.org/#/aavegotchi.eth
Very soon we will see the transition to our Aavegotchi's and their items representing voting power, but for now it is just GHST.
Raffles
A great use for any GHST you're holding is to stake it on the site to earn FRENS: https://aavegotchi.com/stake
This allows you to earn a sort of APY. FRENS can be used to obtain Raffle Tickets which in turn can earn you in game items from a raffle event: https://aavegotchi.com/tickets
Dapp Purchases
GHST is the only token used to trade within the Aavegotchi Baazaar. Same for any Maal Drops from the Development team.
Basically anything introduced into the Aavegotchi ecosystem will need to be purchased using it, including the up and coming REALM sales!
REALM
With the introduction of the Metaverse we will be able to purchase plots of land, called REALM, for our Gotchi's: https://wiki.aavegotchi.com/en/metaverse
While there is already a decent amount of information in the wiki and whitepaper, more will be revealed soon. Many great things will come from this integration.
Update: On June 23rd, 2021 the Gotchiverse REALM Litepaper was released. There will be many more things to finalize, but so far what has been revealed surpasses the expectations of quite a few community members. We will know a lot more soon.

Swapping for GHST
GHST is listed on multiple exchanges now, though Aavegotchi exists almost entirely on Polygon (Matic Network).
One of the most popular swaps on Polygon with the highest liquidity is Quickswap: https://quickswap.exchange/#/swap
This is one of the best places to swap your ETH into whichever currency you need.
In Aavegotchi's case, this is GHST, but you will also use this swap to obtain whichever maTokens you need.
Aavegotchi Portals
Buying Portals
The original 10,000 portals circulated were released during Haunt #1 on March 2nd, 2021.
There was a vote taken late March where quorum, the minimum vote differential needed, was not met so Haunt #2 has been delayed until further notice.
There should be another discussion on this soon, though I'm sure the start of REALM sales will happen first.
Until Haunt #2, portals would need to be purchased directly from the secondary market called the Baazaar: https://aavegotchi.com/baazaar/
Through the Baazaar you have the choice between Open Portals or Closed Portals if you would like to summon your own instead of purchasing an Aavegotchi directly.
Opening Portals
This is the process a portal goes through from creation to Aavegotchi summoning.
Closed Portals can use Chainlink VRF anytime the owner chooses to randomly generate 10 brand new potential Aavegotchis.
From there it becomes an Open Portal with those 10 Gotchis on display. Either version can be listed and sold through the Baazaar.
Though each portal generates 10 Aavegotchis, only 1 of them may be selected and then summoned. The rest dissapear forever.
Spirit Force
In the beginning I briefly mentioned Matic Aave Tokens or maTokens. (On Ethereum Network they are Aave Tokens or aTokens.)
maTokens are yield generating tokens through DeFi protocol Aave: https://aave.com/
To summon an Aavegotchi through an Open Portal, these maTokens must be staked within each one. Cleverly called Spirit Force, each Aavegotchi has a minimum maToken amount needed at all times to remain in existence. You'll notice there are multiple kinds of Gotchis requiring different types of maToken. Decide which ones you like best!
Pro-Tip: You can also view more details visiting the URL https://aavegotchi.com/portal/XXXX. Replace XXXX with the portal number.
Aavegotchi Earnings
Not including the many milestones Aavegotchi users will bear witness to, there are multiple ways to earn through our blockchain ghost frens.
The #1 way to earn, ingrained within it's literal being, is to pick a Gotchi with a currency you'd like to invest in, and then load up on those maTokens.
#1 Way to Earn: HODL
You'll notice below in the bottom right corner of the picture, that my Aavegotchi, Aambassador, has an amount of maAAVE displayed called Spirit Force.
There will always need to be a minimum amount staked for them to "live", hence the name spirit force, but you can fill it up without any limits.
These maTokens will accrue interest in real time directly into your wallet. In this case directly within your Gotchi itself.
The amount of Spirit Force in parentheses is how much is actually in there. I had started at the bare minimum and it has already grown slightly after a month from 0.031056 to 0.031058.
#2 Way to Earn: Rarity Farming
When each portal opens and Chainlink VRF is called upon to summon our Aavegotchi's, the Chainlink oracle randomizes all Aavegotchi traits.
General rule of thumb, any trait numbers away from the middle and closer to the sides of the rarity curve are desirable. A trait that either has a really low score (0-30) or really high score (70-100) will contribute to a higher rarity score. The highest rarity score is 600. The chance of getting a perfect score Aavegotchi from a portal is 0.000000064%.
Any Aavegotchi with > 500 BRS is pretty decent.
Soon we would know better when the developers release sub graphs so we can find out how our Aavegotchi compares to others in the larger ecosystem.
Like most games, you can level up your Aavegotchi by earning XP playing games (in the upcoming Metaverse) or by participating in voting inside the AavegotchiDAO. Every 3 level up allows you to tweak the trait numbers up or down once, augmenting your BRS score.
Aavegotchi Farming Funds
In Aavegotchi, all revenue earned (e.g. portals sold during launch, item drop sales in the maal, a small percentage of baazaar fees, etc...) will continue to benefit the entire community.
33% is burned.
17% is used to pay the developers.
10% goes into a community treasury... and;
40% goes back to the players in Season Rewards!
Rarity Distribution
One of the biggest ways to earn is through Rarity Farming. This 1st season had 3 different leaderboards with a total prize pool of $2 Million+. More than triple what Pixelcraft had first projected.
Kinship Distribution
Every 24 hours there are two 12 hour windows where you can raise an Aavegotchi's Kinship level by interacting with it.
Each 12 hour window lets you raise it by 1, adding up to at least 2 points every day if you make sure you are on time.
But every 24 hour period without petting them or interacting with them at all will result in -1 Kinship.
XP Distribution
Community event participation, minigame participation, snapshot voting and more can help you earn regular amounts of XP to level up your Aavegotchis.
#3 Way to Earn: Increasing Novelty Rarity
Names: Each Aavegotchi can claim a unique name that cannot be recreated unless changed. Just based upon the name, future collectors could find them worth more and more.
Badges: Participating in events and leaderboard placements can earn you non-tradeable Badges that will remain with your Aavegotchi throughout it's lifetime.
