Of course you can, you would say. Quick walkers can walk faster than that.
Apparently, I can't. At least not on the Šmarna gora running event. Why?
Because it's uphill all the time. Officially 1.8 kilometers short with 360 meters of climb.
It was the 24th edition of this famous run today in the afternoon.
The weather was heavy with anticipation of a storm to come. Fortunately, the storm front missed the hill narrowly.
The run itself was more a walk. Many great and quick runners were on the start. Practically the elite of Slovenian mountain running.
While the winner, Timotej Bečan came to the top in an astounding 11 minutes and 13 seconds, I took a more balanced approached. 20 minutes and a hačf was the official result which placed me at the back of the pack. Nevertheless, I was very satisfied. The time was almost two minutes better than the last try two years ago.
Let the photos and graphics tell you the rest of the story.
Running friends before the start
The profile of my run (walk) shows consistency ...
... while the heart rate graph shows that the exertion was somewhat higher towards the end, naturally .)
Technical data is very interesting, in my opinion.
It shows:
- low cadence and short stride
- 354 meters of altitude gain with 0 loss
- 4% of the time going flat while all the rest going up.
No wonder since this is a real mountain running event.
It was extremely humid and while running down after the event I was wet all over again. Here is the final look back with the hill somewhere behind me.
Double peak of Grmada to the left and Šmarn agora, our today's goal, behind it to the right.
It's only two kilometers away :)
