As some of you might know I am a proud owner of two sports watches coming from the Huami company which is practically a daughter company of Xiaomi.
I acquired Stratos last year and was fairly satisfied with the watch. It delivers everything and is comparable to brand watches which are much more expensive.
Here they are side by side.
A month ago I went shopping for the next generation model and took the GTR model.
It is meant to be a sports and every day watch at the same time.
At first everything was splendid. GTR has much better screen and battery life. Sports functions are somewhat trimmed down yet usable.
Then, a week ago things turned for the worse. GPS signal stopped cooperating. At times the watch didn't catch the signal even after fifteen minutes. And when it did it was way to poor to be useful.
For example, here is the detail from a walking recording. Guess which one is GTR?
Yes, the left one. The signal is all over the place. That results in many sidetrips and wrong distance.
7.5 to 6.3 kilometers is a huge error.
In one word - Amazfit GTR is unusable as a sports watch.
I will return it and wait for the Stratos 3 to come to the Europe. Or check the new Xiaomi watch which is supposed to be available soon.
