Yesterday was our first pack outing. We went to bear Lake which is 3 miles north of us and has a nice loop path that is about 1.25 miles. We had 4 or 5 scouts from our pack and a few scouts from our neighbor pack that joined us. There were a number of littles as well that generally made it around the loop. Ours got a ride for about 1/4 of the loop in total.
Near the beginning of the loop we had just gotten to the lake and I noticed something I have never seen before. I have run dozens of loops around this lake and have never seen the bear on the hill over looking the lake. It is hidden a bit in the trees on the hill and I am sure I haven’t noticed it due to the foliage. I feel like someone cleaned out around it in the last year to make it more visible.
The scouts all were looking for signs of wildlife and the best we got was the geese flying around and floating on the lake. There were feathers, lots of dog poo, some small minnows, and a few small birds.
The day was amazingly calm and crisply cool. The lake was like glass and made for some really nice reflections. I got some pretty killer shots from our primary fishing spot. This is the bench that we use and it looks pretty badass in these shots.
The kids all did good and all ticked off requirements for advancement. I am now the Lion Den Leader and have now got my next 2 months of den meetings planned out. I have 2 scouts, my son and one other boy, and they will be getting their Lion rank at the Blue and Gold banquet February 5th. That is as long as both are at each of the 3 needed meetings.
I have signed up for the university of Scouting which is next month and I will be going through Den Leader training and a few other classes. These will hopefully give me a better idea of what I am doing with the den meetings and give me a bit more confidence in taking more responsibility in the pack.
Today is a fun one and I am anxious for Phil Anselmo, Primus, and Ministry tonight. Slayer I am indifferent about. But the other 3 I am SUPER FUCKING stoked to see.
