Waning creativity and not doing much has meant I have not been writing. I have been a serious slacker lately. I feel like part of it is my shoulder still hurts so I am not doing much of anything while trying to rest it, but I keep doing stupid shit like carrying firewood that ends up causing me pain. Sleeping has been tough with the pain when lying on my right side so I wake up at times and have to roll over while the pain subsides.
Last Saturday I went to the University of Scouting event held in Spokane Valley. It was a useful day in that I got to talk with a bunch of other adults and learn more about ways to approach being a den leader or scout leader in general. I ended up not doing a fifth period class and opted to head home. The den leader training was done by the scout master of our troop and was more of a discussion than anything. The Keys to a successful troop was eye opening as to the changes and differences now in scouting. The bulk of the class was aimed at the Scouts not so much the Cubs, but it was still worth the time.
We had lunch buffet and then there was a pair of speakers. They are super passionate for scouting and they do a lot for the local council. They have a pretty moving story and tears were shed around the crowd with them. Probably made the most impact on me of the day. Just that there is still a solid passion for Scouting still and there are people who are willing to give much to help young people learn the skills and enjoy the experiences of Scouting.
I have my tickets for my trip to CO next month to see a couple of my Air Force buddies. We will go skiing/boarding and hang out. It has been a couple years since I was last so it will be good to get back. Tickets weren’t bad but the flight times suck for non-stop Spokane to Denver but I will make it work.
The Wii dvd drive took a shit so I have a new one that will be here Friday. I got a nice 115 piece driver set that has all the weird funky bits for electronics and has the ones for the Wii. I have the Wii apart and in a box awaiting the new drive. It will take just minutes to get it installed and the thing put back together.
Tonight is the Cub Scout xmas party so it won’t be any learning but I plan on working with J over the break to finish off his last activity for his Lion rank. We can easily get a couple of others knocked out in that time as well if we want. I will kind of leave it up to him if we do a bunch of work on Scouts outside of the meetings. Once we are doing the stuff at home he may just want to keep going. We will see how it goes.
Friday is xmas party at work which is always an interesting and fun evening. Things are changing for the gift exchange in hopes of introducing expediency to the ordeal. It has taken hours before and the hope is to get it to not be the entirety of the party.
