It was just a little below freezing today, so it was a great temperature for walking. This is fairly warm for our area this time of year. In fact, it was above freezing for several days, which means the snow on the trails melted and then froze again as ice. So we had to be careful.
I received Yaktrax for Christmas just for this purpose, but did I remember to bring them? No, if course not. Yaktrax are the coolest product. The snap onto your shoes and provide extra traction. If you were around in the era when everyone attached chains to their tires when the roads were icy, then you have an idea of what these are. They are like tire chains but for your shoes.
As you can see in the pictures, the icy trail surface is shiny. Fortunately, we all had pretty good boots with traction.
Quite a few cyclists ride past us on fat tire bikes. Can you see him?
Another cool thing we saw was that someone has groomed an ice skating trail in the creek. It’s really cool. You can skate around a pond, and then down a long stretch where you can probably pick up pretty good speed.
I had hoped to get all the way out to the Lake Minnetonka, which is our usual destination. It can be quite beautiful this time of year — all covered with snow and dotted with ice fishing houses. But my daughter had evening plans, so we had to get back.
