After today I do believe this must be the worst road in Colorado. Lake Como Road is a brutal hike, and anything other than a dirt bike may have a difficult time. Two broken down Jeeps are along the trail that we seen today.
I parked my truck when the running boards starting scraping rock and we got out on foot. The road is very physically and mentally challenging since every time you turn a bend hoping to get a flat spot it's more uphill pretty much every time. We stopped for frequent breaks to catch our breath.
We made it really close to the top, probably less than 1 mile, but it was getting late into the afternoon and I didn't want to get back at dark. I had packed lunch in my pack so we stopped and ate. We had trail mix, peanut butter crackers, smoked herring, and smoked scallops.
I'm still optimistic that we will make it to the top before we leave, but we may take a couple days off after today. This is the hardest we've pushed ourselves in a long time and I'm still very proud of how far we made it.
