Podcast Movement 2017
Hard to believe that Podcast Movement 2017 was happening only two weeks ago! So much has happened since. Podcast Movement is the biggest conference for podcasters in the world and among the 2000 participants, 17 countries were represented.
The conference was in Anaheim which was just a couple of hour drive from me, but people came from as far as Tokio, Dubai, Australia, New Zealand and many other countries.
I was fortunate to be one of the speakers. Our panel was called Podcasts: Untapped Resource for Social Change.
In this picture, you see our fearless leader Judithe Registre at the podium. Next to her are in order: Jenise Fryatt, Dirk Primbs, Diana Daniels, Rachel Carson-Begley. You don't see me - I am just out of the picture :)
Podcasting for Social Change
Magic happened during our panel session. In our pre discussion, we had formed the plan, or maybe more the desire, that we wanted to find a way to connect with the audience and start some form of collaboration.
We did express that desire and several people in the audience took it from there. They started circulating a sign in sheet, collected business cards and handed it all to me at the end of the session.
That made our hearts sing!! Of course, most of our audience were podcasters who are working to bring awareness to their causes - from environmental issues to gender and race equality to fighting hunger and more.
We all are already having these conversations and are now coming together to see how we can support each other and also ourselves to make this work sustainable for each of us.
What has Happened Since the Conference
- Judithe and I recorded a podcast we each will release to our audiences
- We created a Facebook Group to get the conversation to a deeper level
- We created a Voxer chat
- We created a mailing list and sent the first email campaign. It got an almost 100% opening rate!!
Good stuff!!!
This time, I am in the picture, but Rachel Carson-Begley had already left.

Soon, I will devote a post on Voxer and why I love it so much. In the meantime, if you want to try it out, here is my affiliate link http://voxer.grsm.io/MarianneWest . Use it from your desktop or laptop. Voxer is free for the basic functions which is enough for most users. Enjoy!
