If you read my post about dropshipping and e-commerce, that's just step 1 of your e-commerce venture.
E-commerce Process Flow:
- Find supplier (cost: free)
- Choose platform for your store, popular platforms are Shopify or Woocommerece (cost: varies. Shopify is good for beginners and their ecosystem is built for ecommerce. Woocommerce, you would need to have some programming and web development skills, you'd have to pay for hosting, etc)
- Add products to your website (cost: varies. If you choose to do it yourself, it's free.)
- Buy a domain name (cost: $10 at godaddy.com)
Up to this point, you haven't spent too much money on your new venture. The next step is where you'll need to spend money. It doesn't matter if you have the best looking website, product or service. If no one knows about it, you don't have a business. Most of the money spent will be in marketing. Unfortunately, this is where a lot of people will fail/stop, either because they didn't have enough money allocated, or their marketing campaign was just not effective and they did not get many sales. At the end of the day, the goal is to make a sale.
- Some popular ways to market your website: Facebook Ads, Google Ads, Instagram Ads, Influencers.
Unfortunately, at Step 5, a lot of people lose a lot of money from "testing" their ads.
Below I'll talk about Facebook Ads and why some ads are not converting. One little change can cause you to go from negative ROI to 100% ROI on Facebook.
Reason 1: Your targeting Is Off - this is an extremely simple one. You simply aren’t showing your advertisements to the right people! How can you expect people to buy a basketball from your store if you’re targeting people who are interested in ballet? When I first begin testing for Facebook ads, I test one interest at a time, this way I know which interests are working and which ones aren’t.
Reason 2: Your Product Page/Landing Page Sucks - say you get someone to click on your ad and then they get sent to your stores home page (MISTAKE NUMBER ONE). You always want to run an advertisement for an individual product. So guess where you’re going to send them?? That’s right! The product page. When your potential customers get to the product page, it needs to be clean. The deal you advertised needs to be clear on the product page (never be misleading). You also need to use marketing strategies such as scarcity and urgency to build rapport with your buyers - you want them to thin, ‘man, I can’t miss out on this!’
Reason 3: Your Advertisement Visual Sucks - people are never going to click on an advertisement which looks unprofessional. Study the great companies, all their advertisements are extremely professional looking and provoke people to want to click them. (See Examples in my FREE training - link in bio)
Reason 4: You’re Not Targeting Engaged Shoppers - Go to behaviors, search engaged shoppers, and ALWAYS run ads to engaged shoppers only!! Made this mistake early in my dropshipping career.
Reason 5: Your Not Patient Enough - cut your advertisements off after you’re certain they’re not working. If all the above elements are mastered it comes down to 2 things: patience and testing! You got this!
