Winter time in Alaska can be a pretty amazing time. If you can withstand the cold, and drag yourself from the warmth of ur home or car. You could see some pretty awesome sites.
When I first started taking photos the last thing I wanted to do was go outside during the winter. I didn't want to be cold, its all white, there is nothing worth shooting. I look back and I laugh at myself now, because winter time in Alaska is one of the best times to shoot!
The snow clinging to the trees after a really heavy snowfall. Being out in the middle of no where, listening to absolutely nothing. Complete silence, is one of my favorite things. You can just find a great spot, sit down and just take it all in.
Seeing the snowcapped mountains is breathtaking in its self. In my personal opinion, some of the best sunrises and sunsets are during the winter months as you can see from the below image.
There are days I get up for work, I look out of my sunroom that looks out the back of my house, and I see the most beautiful sites sometimes. There are so many times that I just want to call in sick to work, just so I can take off and go shoot these amazing views.
I had the chance on a beautiful snowy day to take a walk down by the Eklutna River whit a couple friends. the images below are from that shoot.

I found a bush with a small group of berries still left that made for a pretty cool image.
So don't let winter fool you. You can get some pretty amazing shots in the cold. Make sure to dress warm and keep ur batteries warm. Get out their and have an adventure, no matter what the weather throws at you.
