For me, social distancing includes the need to sometimes distance myself from my often-negative, woe-predicting husband. So today I gathered up a lunch, some CDs, two books, and the grandpuppy, and went for a drive. I opted to head for Sandpoint, as I had not been there for quite some time. I knew my favorite stores would all be closed, because they are not considered to be "essential", but there are nice spots to go for a walk. First, though, I drove all the way up to Schweitzer Mountain, the local ski resort. In the 21 years we've lived in the area, I had never been there before. Each of my children has skiied at Schweitzer once, with friends, but it was new to me today.
Nine miles of curves, hairpin turns, and steep grades brought me to this marvelous view of Lake Pend Oreille and the mountains beyond.
Other than admiring the view, I didn't find it an appealing place to be today: it is still winter up there! The parking lot was full of muddy slush, and plows were clearing snow away around the edges. And it was cold. Louie hates to get his feet wet and muddy, so he wasn't enthused, either. We walked around just a little bit, and I took a few pictures. I had no idea there were so many condos and homes up there.
Although the skiing season is over, the ski slopes are clearly visible on the hillsides.
