I took an Uber yesterday and what my driver told me, left me speechless.
"I am Hutu from Rwanda. My father, my brothers and my sister got killed in the aftermath of the genocide. And if I speak up about what really happened in Rwanda, someone is going to find me and kill me. Even in Cape Town. I only talk to you, because you are from Europe."
When I asked for his number, he declined and said:
"If you want to know what really happened, watch the documentary about Rwanda's Untold Story"
So I did. And everything I thought I knew about the genocide in 1994 was challenged. While the prevailing view around the world is that the "Hutus killed the Tutsis", this documentary paints a different picture.
According to two US American researchers hundreds of thousands of Hutus could have been killed too. Possibly through forces led by the current President Kagame.
Kagame could be the "most important war criminal still in office today” says the Belgian historian Prof. Filip Reyntjens.
And everyone who questions the "real story" is accused of genocide denial.
For me, this a big red flag.
I think we should all begin to ask more questions what has really happened in Rwanda in 1994.
Please spread the word and watch the documentary (60 minutes). I know it's long, so read this article https://bit.ly/2P5E3h3 (4 minutes) instead.
