Marriages in the Gambia are of two types. The Monogamous Marriage and the
Polygamous Marriage, the second of which is practiced by almost all
Gambian's ethnic groups.. The monogamous Marriage is a type of marriage
where the man marries one wife , and polygamous marriage is a type of
marriage where a man marries more than one wife, this can be two, three or
four wives and is mainly a practice of Muslim society..
Married women in polygamous or Monogamous union have property and other
rights, Including the rights to divorce their husbands...Their Husbands,
however, are free to marry other wives without their permission....

Although having only one wife is mostly practice in the western
world which i can say almost 99% of the western world practice
monogamous marriage ..
