This is my pre-kickoff post for my blog on memory and aging. I will be sharing my insights, perspectives, and personal experiences with both for as long as I can, well, remember. Nothing in these posts is professional information, or backed by scientific research beyond the learning I do.
I had intended to start this account in early 2015. At the time, I had become convinced that I would be lucky to live until age 70 for various reasons. I had also began sensing signs that the dementia and Alzheimer's that led to my mother's death were training their gaze onto me. It wasn't paranoia; there was data to suggest this was occurring. Starting then would give be ~5000 days to journal, blog and converse about these issues.
Over time, my inherent forgetfulness (aka "Airhead Adam") caused me to forget. Once in a while I would remember, then forget again. And again. And again.
For reasons that will become apparent, I now have the mechanisms to help me remember, for now, and am trying to undertaking this blog in earnest for the beauty of expression and to share things others may also be thinking or concerning themselves with.
As you can probably tell, I am not a professional writer, but I will be doing my best to convey my experiences.
At present, I am down to 1000 days. Not as great as 5000, but better than zero. So, let's get on with it, shall we? I intend to post 3-4 times a month to start.
Look for posts to begin soon. Until then...
