Dear steemers,
If you looked into the meadows in central Europe today you could see all kind of happy cows and happy farmers.
The reason is the rain !
It is still the midst of the holiday season in Northern Europe and therefore below shown thunderstorms normally are bad news. But not this year. With hardly any rain for three months and hot weather all the time farmers got desperate already and consumers worried:
- no grass for cattle and failed harvests
- cattle already requiring grass/hay destined for winter
- damage to the land and erosion
- future shortages for consumers and/or high prices
So here are todays rains and thunderstorms:
Is it enough and not too late?
Experts say that if rains return the farmers can still produce enough hay for coming winter. For this extra measures have been taken already, for example farmers can ride out mest/manure for a longer period than normal. Also farmers - when eligible - will get the Euro subsidy due end of the year already now.
So fingers crossed. We cannot live from steem alone, we have to eat!
