We're Screwed
AI TAKING ALL OUR JOBS
Greetings! Hope you're having a nice weekend. It's been a week since posting on Hive despite my intention to post more frequently this year. I've been very busy this week, which felt good - being productive, but half of it was spent moving stuff from one place to another.
I recently got access to some more storage space in someone's shed. I'd been dreaming of such a time when I could decongest my storage space so I could use it for more productive purposes so I jumped at the chance.
I did my back in a little while carrying heavy items back and forth so I've had to take some time to recover from that too. I have to remember to take better cafe of my back as I'm getting older - I'm no spring chicken anymore.
Talking of which, I was helping a friend look for a job yesterday. All he's ever done is security work and doesn't have many qualifications or experience outside that industry. Of course there are a lot of transferable skills from that kind of job, which was part of what I was helping him with, but one has to know how to frame those things in one's CV.
It's been a long time since I'd looked at the job market. I was shocked, and not shocked at the same time, that there are pretty much no jobs out there. Most of the ones advertised are fake in one way or the other. Either the jobs didn't exist and were posted to harvest CVs by agencies, or they'd already hired internally.
To add to his woes, my friend is 54 years old! It's infinitely harder to get a job at that age than, say, at 25 years of age. Mind you there are very few job openings for 25 year olds too. I was sat at a local McDonalds the other day and counted more than usual people coming in to "speak to the manager" for obvious reasons. I've also noticed an increase in how many inefficient cars are being used for Uber and Amazon delivery these days. Usually you'd only see the energy efficient cars being used but, I kid you not, someone delivered my package in a Lexus the other day.
The job market is shrinking rapidly partly due to AI of course. The way we are going (this is the worst AI will ever be), tings are only going to get more difficult unless something drastic is done. By the way this affects us more in the West. AI is levelling the playing field in the digital world. In those so-called third world countries, most of the work people do are more difficult to replace with AI. I mentioned Uber and Amazon delivery above? Well those jobs are easily replaced by drones, self-driving cars and whatnot. Not so much in the 3rd world.
Basically we're screwed here. That's the message I came to deliver haha. That's me done, have a nice rest of your day 😂
Peace & Love,
Adé
