Wale: Mummy please wake up, mummy please don’t die yet, I have a lot to do for you, please wake up mum.
That was the restless crying voice of Wale who visited a roadside chemist to buy malaria drugs for his ailing mother, instead of taking her to the hospital or an approved pharmacy.
Flashback
Mrs. Ogunjobi (Wale’s mum) was at her shop when she suddenly collapsed. She was quickly rushed home instead of the hospital. Actually, it was Mrs. Ogunjobi who insisted on going home as she said it was a normal sickness and once she used some of these roadside drugs, she will be back on her feet the next day.
On arriving home, she called on her 15-year-old son (Wale), gave him three hundred Nigerian dollar to buy her some malaria drugs from one of those roadside chemists on their street. Everyone who rushed her home, including Wale all rejected the idea as they all agreed to get her a nurse but she said “I don’t have any money to give to anyone abeg”.
They all accepted, since they weren't the ones paying the medical bills, they were only showing concern. They told Wale to go and buy the drugs and before he came back, everyone was gone, since she was already getting better. On Wale’s return, she quickly used the drugs without checking the names, dosage, and prescription, what it works for and if it can actually heal her.
After about 5 minutes, Mrs. Ogunjobi fell asleep at around 3pm with Wale watching over her. It was 8pm and it was time for dinner, Wale tried waking his mum but there was no response, he screamed and began crying profusely.
She was quickly rushed to the hospital. Luckily, she was resuscitated but the bad news was, “as a result of the wrong drugs she used, she developed stroke”. Doctors said she had the trait of having stroke in about 10 years from now but the drugs brought it out fully.
My question is, the money she failed to take to the hospital, can she now use that same amount to cure her stroke???
Summary
I know a lot of Nigerians, including myself are fans of self medication. I want to use this platform given to me by @air-Clinic to appeal and urge us all to please, please and please, say “NO TO SELF MEDICATION” because it leads to untimely death and other unforeseen and dreadful diseases.
