Not long after the marriage ceremony, a young couple begin to realise that it takes more than love to maintain a home. The bride and the bridegroom had savings before marriage but were surprised to see how quickly these savings could dwindle as they attempted to meet the needs of their new home. The assumption that Harry's pay check would be enough was too optimistic. Harry was not promoted as fast as he had hoped and Mary, coming from a wealthy background envisaged that if the worse comes to worst, her parents would assist. She was yet to find out.
Money represents the material things which provide a homelike setting. The amount of money and the handling of this money determine the standard of living in a given home.
As time went on, Mary began to find it hard to get accustomed to this new standard of living which by comparison, smacks of poverty. She realised she needs new clothes, food stuffs in the kitchen, and there was the rent. The one question that haunted Harry day and night was, "Where will the money come from?".
Cooperation among them ceased, she feels insecure, he becomes discouraged. Not long after, his lack of concentration earns him a sack letter.
All hope is now lost!
Depression sets in following poverty. These two take turns to finally force the couple out of their home. Jobless and angry, they find shelter in a slum. What a drop!
Poor sanitation, Malnutrition and Malaria became the order of the day. Mary's parents refused to help because they warned her against marrying a man whose income was only a fraction of theirs. If only she and Harry gave their home and income proper planning, it wouldn't have collapsed.
Was it too late?
Truth is, there is nothing like "enough money" as long as human needs remain insatiable. Nobody ever has enough money.
Therefore, how to handle and control money is what limits its absence and presence of poverty and diseases.
That is to say, Money + sense = Good health, Money - sense = Poverty and diseases.
