An Average Nigerians would take Anti-maleria drugs whenever he feels sick.
I hope we learn from this
Self Medication
I was at a prep class when I heard the boarding master shouting my name. I was startled because he usually sent people to call me. Why didn't he send someone like he always did? I saw the look on his face.... He wasn't happy. What was wrong?
After spending few minutes with him I got the message. My dad had called. He was admitted in a hospital. It was very serious and the doctors asked for a relation to come. You see I was the only relation my dad had as my mum was out of town.
Got to the hospital and I couldn't contain my tears. I saw my dad in the worst state I had ever seen. He had emaciated.
He was sleeping when I got there so I couldn't ask why. I went to see the nurse incharge of the ward for answers because I had imagined a thousand and one scenario.
She told me my dad self medicated. He felt he had typhoid and got some drugs from a shop close to where we stayed. I wasn't surprised because that was not the first time. However the "doctor" did not just give him a wrong drug but an expired one
He had taken the drugs for four(4) days before our neighbour noticed and rushed him to the hospital.
I cried and prayed. God Please forgive his ignorance.
It's over 5years now but my dad has never self medicated nor let any of his children do that
He would rather go for a test and takes only drugs prescribed at the pharmaceutical section of a hospital.
