It’s only been 10 days when Byteball announced a huge airdrop for Steemians and 42,845 Steemians quickly grabbed this free money on offer. How many of us here can resist free money? But compared to over 1 million Steem accounts, only 4.2% users availed this offer. Seems like many are still not even aware of this airdrop.

But there were many greedy users too who started opening new accounts and inflated their reputation score by extensive use of paid bot services. To curb such users, Byteball modified its rules a week after the launch of this airdrop. According to the new modified rules, only Steem accounts opened on or prior to 12th July would now be considered for these rewards. Rewards for users with reputation below 50 were reduced by half too.

But abusive behavior doesn’t stop here. Some people coded scripts to hijack referrals. As soon as a referrer sent 50,000 bytes to a new user for her attestation, these scripts picked that up on the publicly visible DAG and immediately sent an amount closer to the amount needed to pay an attestation and a transaction fee. So this made referring new users almost impossible.

In my last post about Byteball airdrop, I had offered to give you free initial bytes needed for attestation fee. But now there is no need to send any attestation fee for availing this airdrop.
