It's been a tough year on the allotment, what with a very wet spring, then a very dry June and then a wet July.
And because I got everything in late that means it's been more of a challenge, and why I haven't made it down there in a while, but instead focused on my much easier to manage backyard garden (tomatoes coming along nicely!).
I've been so slack on the allotment that I got a friendly warning phone call about my grass needing cutting otherwise I'd be on 'the committee's' radar.
And so not wanting to be on that particular radar, I headed on down yesterday with my strimmer to tidy up and check on the plot.
It was a bit of a mess, but some stuff seems to have done O.K!
Artichokes
O.K. They are notoriously easy to grow, but at least I've got a crop of something!
NB this is after tidying up the grass, which took about an hour!
Butternut squash
Given that I haven't done any watering for a month (which is saying something for July, it really has been WET!) I'll take ANY level of growth on my squash... it's small, but no real sun, no feeding... it's O.K.
I think I may have something to eat come October at least!
Artichokes and Fennel...
And two more perennials.... I think some of the artichokes may be a little too far gone, but there's one left!
This year on the allotment final thoughts...
It's been a tough year, so I'm gonna give myself a break!
I'll take what I can and then get tidying and thinking forwards to winter planting!
