Okay, so I’ve never played Steem Monsters aka Splinterlands. Likely won’t start any time soon. Don’t really grok it.
But, damn, is it popular. From what I’ve read, quite addictive too.
As the Steemverse expands, the real possibility of mass onboarding suggests that many more people might be playing it in the future and wanting cards/decks to play or lease.
At one time I considered buying some of the Steem-Engine DEC tokens purely as a speculation on the game’s popularity. But there are millions of Dark Energy Crystal tokens in circulation and a theoretical cap of a trillion of them.
On the other hand, there’s a maximum of 300,000 Steem Monsters Alpha Pack tokens with just over 12,000 in circulation.
“Each ALPHA token represents one, unopened Steem Monsters Alpha Edition booster pack.”
Hmmmm.... maybe that makes ALPHA a buy-and-hold token rather than one to trade? The only downside I see is a fairly wide bid/ask gap.
Am I missing something, or do ALPHA tokens have a shot at being a strong long-term speculative investment?
