Fertilising the garden with coffee grounds was a little hint we picked up from someone, can't remember whom, and at the time thought what a magnificent way to use our coffee grounds productively and fertilise the garden at the same time. Before we were throwing the grounds in the rubbish. What a waste! So for the last year or so this is what we have done, sprinkled our one shot and 2 shot coffee grounds into flowering plants, garden and lawn.
And I might say with marvellous results. For instance, the chrysanthemum I had in the kitchen window was moved outside after the one huge flower dropped off. It was fertilised lightly with coffee grounds again when planted in changing baskets with four alyssums the other day. The chrysanthemum had grown 16 little buds which to me was amazing.
What do you think? A few pink buds are rapidly opening up!

But, this morning I decided it was time for a little bit of research into coffee and found that while coffee grounds are full of potassium and nitrogen, it was important to mix the grounds with some organic matter to avoid burning and damage to the plants. Oops! Better late than never I suppose. Maybe only putting a little bit into the soil occasionally was okay considering I have only had great results.
Anyway from now on, I really will be extra cautious about using coffee grounds on their own. I will have to get Ben to collect his sawdust to mix in with the coffee grounds. I have included a little video clip from Gardening Australia that regularly features on Australian ABC television. It is very educational and something I really needed to listen to a year or so ago.source
One last flower pot pic before I sign off, pretty alyssums. They were potted yesterday with a sprinkle of coffee grounds...... of course. #Awaysaflower blooming in my yard
