Well, here we are on the tail side of another weekend of football. I can't say that I am very happy about how things turned out for my team. I will get to that in a little bit...
On Friday I wrote this post with an overview of the football games there were going to be taking place in the Big Ten last weekend.
Sadly, I think the only game that I was even close to being accurate on was the Ohio State game. Here is the full breakdown though:
Penn State v. Minnesota
I thought for sure Penn State was going to win this one. Minnesota put up a heck of a fight though and ended up victorious. Congrats to them for improving their record to 9 and 0 and handing Penn State their first loss of the season.
Purdue v. Northwestern
I gave the nod to the Wildcats in this game and to be fair they almost succeeded. I was pretty sad when I saw that I had miscalled yet another game. Northwestern now has a single win for the season and it is hard to see them coming away with many more based on their schedule. Their lone opportunity might be a non conference game against UMass next weekend.
Maryland v. Ohio State
As I said, this one was going to be a blood bath. Maryland wasn't much of a opponent, but this blowout win should keep the Buckeyes squarely in the number one spot. Just look at the score, there isn't much else to say about this game.
Illinois v. Michigan State
It is always exciting when an underdog makes a huge comeback and goes home with the win. Unless your team is on the wrong side of that contest. I was pretty upset with the way the Spartans were playing on Saturday. Just ask my wife and dog. They probably heard some words they have never heard before.
I knew that this game could go either way just because of how mercurial State is. What I didn't expect was for them to blow a twenty five point lead heading into the fourth quarter and basically throw away a game that should have been a fairly easy home win for them.
I know that MSU and U of M both bring their 'A' games when they play each other for rivalry weekend, but this showing doesn't give me much hope going into next weekend. I think I am not alone when I say that it might be time for Coach Dantonio to Dantoni-go.
Iowa v. Wisconsin
This was the only other game that I predicted correctly besides the Ohio State game. Good thing I didn't put down any money this past weekend right? Iowa had an impressive fourth quarter to make it an exciting game, but ultimately Wisconsin prevailed. This takes the Badgers to 7 - 2 on the season and I bet they are really kicking themselves now over that loss to Illinois.
Next weekend should be very exciting with some huge rivalry games taking place. Stay tuned for my preview later this week!
