I grew up in a Amish home in central Illinois. No electricity, running water, air conditioning and many of the comforts of home. Yet many people want to join the Amish. Transportation is by horse and buggy. This YouTube video explains some of the differences between the Amish lifestyle and the "English" non-Amish. The thing I appreciate about the Amish is their work ethic and spending time with the family. They do not have distractions like TV Facebook and all the other things that go with living a fast-paced modern lifestyle. I am now a Mennonite and our heritage is from the Ana-baptist movement started in Europe in the late 17th century. The Amish in our area are not allowed by the bishop to use tractors in the field.
I hope you enjoy this short introduction to the Amish.
