We think it strange that people of the past put up with the things they did, yet people of today can't seem to see what they are putting up with. For some reason, the things of today appear more legitimate. This is where our opportunity is found.
As I listen to people talk about the issues of today, the main thing I see is that they are not even asking the right questions. Then, I look at my feeds and I see the memes laying down the logic. This is the battle.
It may not be a constant, though.
As far as I can see, there are two types or reasons for tyranny:
Extortion
"Give me your money, for your own good". says the government.
"Muh roads!" replies the good servant.
The controlling force always has the ability to extort the populace. Today we often refer to this extortion as taxes.
In a supposed democracy, we (as a society) beg to be extorted. It is getting worse. People want other people to pay for everything they want. Health care, education, housing, protection, etc. The list goes on and on today.
The problem is, just like the prohibition we will look at in a bit, all the things that government controls has unintended consequences. Usually, those unintended consequences turn out to be exactly the opposite effect of what the government program was sold to the people as a solution for.
Solution: We can overcome this problem by building solutions on our own. Open source principles are a great start. Lets open source the roads and use a blockchain to manage it all.
Prohibition
The majority of the problems that people cannot seem to get over involves some sort of prohibition over another group of people. All prohibition requires the force of government to become an insurmountable problem and here we see where the division amongst people starts.
One group wants to use the government to prohibit another group.
There is some sort of strangeness happening to people when we get into this. If a thing is deemed dangerous, the only solution many can think of is prohibition. Ban it! The thing is, we have learned this lesson before. Alcohol prohibition is the most clear example of the failure of prohibition. Most people admit that alcohol is one of the most dangerous drugs available. Yet, you can go down to the store and grab you some (so long as you are allowed).
