This the starting post of several, documenting my time staying at an Anarchist village in Denmark that started 50 years ago this summer.
The organisers from a Festival just decided to stay at the festival site and now its home to quite a few people. This place doesnt follow Civil Law, but instead it has just 3 rules:
- No Violence
- No Theft
- No Hard Drugs
I have been meeting too many people to keep up with names the last 2 days its just got confusing lately! The piece of land is huge and at the entrance is the shop and bar for the locals and in warmer month's for the Tourists.
This place is without a doubt the biggest tourist attraction in North Denmark.
It was a relief to hear that when I said I was staying at Ungdomshuset in Copenhagen- they said that all the real punks and anarchists left when the first place got evicted and torn down, and the new one is just a fake.
The Flag of The New Society- I will detail this in another post
So far I have learnt that Christiania was first occupied by people who moved away from here, and also the universe has already welcomed me here with a few freaky signs that Im in the right place.
The first was when I was writing a poster to stick on the wall to say I was looking for a ride, and a guy said that theres some people living here that had just got back from the place in Spain. He then showed me the friends facebook and his picture was taken just 50m away from where I'm heading to!
The Second sign was after waking up and walking the dogs, I decided to knock on the neighbours door to introduce myself and I recognised the family living there from some people who had helped them building the house, and showed me the webpage and advert that they had created on Workaway.com
I havent done much since arriving here, Im sleeping in a small wagon and it seems likely that the owner will want to get rid of it because he has since built a house in the near and the wagon has started to get damp inside.
The windows need replacing and for heat to be created inside to save it. I should be helping Thursday to demolish a house to free up space to build a new one on, in exchange for a wood oven. I also need to chat with the owner of the wagon but he is not around!
Im going to keep names and faces anon on here, but one guy I am calling Santa, who was very helpful to show me a place to sleep, has also offered to take me to people who have some small jobs to do from cleaning things to construction work to earn some cash.
The great thing about blockchain is that I can show older posts as reference to what I can do work-wise with ease and it wont be lost somewhere. (And show people also blockchain!)
Talking about Blockchain...
Here they actually have a creditcard system, but its not using the banks.
To access hot water, kitchen and showers you need one of the cards. The people that live here top it up with cash and then swipe it when 1 use something.
I have met two men who say they are hobby programmers, and suggested to one that this place could stop using cash, and create a digital token to be used on the cards
instead of cash units and start it off by giving out an airdrop to everyone.
I also suggested it should be possible to use QR codes and an app!
"The Mushroom" - The Local Pub
I noticed that I could smell cig smoke on my clothes which is proper disgusting..
..and a guy said "Well.. here our Lounge is a pub, and pubs are full of smoke" !
