Dragonflies live around the water because on the surface of water dragonfly adults put eggs that will then hatch into larvae. But dragonflies do not live in any water. Dragonflies have to live in clean water, because they can not survive in contaminated water or whose water ecosystems are disturbed. If there are many dragonflies in a water source, it indicates that the water source is clean, not polluted. Therefore, in ancient times the Navajo Indians drew the symbol of a dragonfly as a sign of clean water.
