Proteins, Second essential component of nutritious food. Part-2
How are you? Guys, As you know very well we were talking about the structures of proteins made by the polypeptide chains and we have already looked at the first structure called primary structure and today we will go further.
Secondary Structure.
In secondary structure the polypeptide chain coils in a spiral shape with the help of hydrogen bonding between the oxygen of one amino acid and hydrogen of another amino acid because oxygen has negative charge and hydrogen has positive charge. e.g, Fibrin.
Tertiary Structure.
In this structure polypeptide forms globular shape with the help of disulphide, ionic bonds, hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic and hydrophilic interactions between amino acids. e.g, Myoglobin
Quarternary Structure.
In this structure, both the secondary and tertiary structures are found. e.g, Hemoglobin.
So, guys, That is what we had to look at today and i hope that this post possibly has some potential to refresh your concepts about the various structures of proteins.
