Lipids, The highest source of energy.
Hi Guys! How are things with you these days? I feel very sorry for not posting here for a few days because of a mishap i went through. so get to the business, today we are going to look at the composition and functions of lipids that are organic, heterogeneous and non polar compounds and their types as well.
Lipids are the organic substances composed of glycerol and fatty acids i think it is better to call them to be complex compounds or mixtures of various organic compounds. If the lipids have single covalent bond between the fatty acids they are called saturated fatty acids and at room temperature they are solids and they are called fats and they are called oils at room temperature as well as unsaturated fatty acids when they have double or triple covalent bonds. Lipids are the highest source of energy, e.g phospholipids which are composed of one glycerol, two fatty acids and fone phosphatidic acid they form the cell membranes of bacteria, plants and animals, Waxes, they are the mixture of alkanes, ketones, alcohols and fatty acids with odd number of carbon atoms, they provide protective coating on fruits to prevent water loss. Steroids, They are also lipids, e.g, male and female sex hormones are the steroid which help in oogenesis and spermatogenesis and many more functions they have got.
That is what we had to know today to refresh our old concepts about bio organic compounds of such type.
