I went to New York City for the day with my girlfriend and her family for, well, essentially no reason.
I have not been to the city a lot, and was excited. And despite all the cultural things I saw that I was originally inspired to share, one thing stood out to me more than the others:
Every single trendy rich hipster (or even just your typical mother) in the city was wearing a Canada Goose jacket.
I was not familiar with the brand until recently, when my girlfriend and her sister told me about the brand.
Amidst lunch, I looked it up on my phone, and saw an article about the staggering amount of coyote abuse that goes into the production of these jackets.
It was 11 degrees Fahrenheit today, and windy as fuck. As a result, practically no one was outside by choice. However, the only place I saw people lined up outside of was the Canada Goose store, which had an inappropriately long line of wealthy people lining up for what seemed to be an event.
I originally felt compelled to say something when I saw we were walking by a Canadian Goose outlet store. The line outside discouraged me from trying to go inside the store; but my girlfriend did talk to the people in the line about animal cruelty, managing to get some of them to turn away. However, most of them didn't seem to care, and were eager to spend the better part of a grand on some stupid black coyote fur jacket and support a company that puts an insurmountable number of animals through torture and slaughter.
I felt compelled to write this post to see if others knew about the unethical movement that is supporting this company and to spread awareness, if at all possible. Please resteem if you find this important, or write your own post if you feel mine is inadequate. As long as the word continues to spread.
