Hello people of Steemit! I hope you're all having a great week.
I shot these images at my local wildlife trust in Devon, UK. The Shaldon Wildlife trust is a loving and passionate non-profit charity that cares deeply about the conservation of endangered species. It protects range of different primates, running breeding programs to help prevent the extinction of some of the world's most incredible creatures.
The Ring-tailed Lemur or Lemur Catta is native to a very remote part of the world, in the dry forests and bush of southern and south-western Madagascar. Over the last ~40 years, the overall population reduction is thought to be ≥50%. The main causes for this reduction include pollution, habitat destruction and exploitation through unsustainable levels of hunting.
The IUCN Red List, has marked the species as 'Endangered'.
Sadly this is just one of the thousands of species that is being brought to a near-extinction level as a result of human impact on the environment. We have a huge problem on our hands if we do not collectively address this matter. The ecosystems of nature depend on one another and when any species is wiped out, it causes ripple effects that causes even greater issues in other systems. Looking at the current rate of decline in wildlife, if it does not cease, then we are will inevitably be facing Earth's sixth mass extinction.
That includes ourselves.
Every living organism on this planet, including the planet, is a self-healing organism. Like a biological computer that has just the right amount of give and take to survive and to thrive. So why are humans the only exception? Even a parasitic virus knows not to kill it's host - and yet we live to do just that, wilfully and knowingly walking towards our own demise.
Let's not allow the power-hungry fascist Elites continue to decimate our home.
Donate what you can or volunteer to work for The Nature Conservancy, Greenpeace, WWF, Oceana, the RSPB, or any other conservation society that you may be passionate about.
Even if it's a small trust, baby steps help contribute to a global action.
Please spread this message and help bring some awareness to those who remain ignorant of one of the most important issues we face as a species. Time is running out.
We are all equally responsible for what is happening to our beautiful planet. So let's not leave this place a life-less baron wasteland for our future generations.
