While waiting to pick up my son, I parked right in front of this patch of thistles that were waiting for a strong wind to spread their seeding and a beautiful gold finch came for a stop.
I was thrilled and quickly took out my camera, (I don't leave home without it :-) ! I took as many pictures as I could and the entire time I was wondering what she is doing. At first, I thought, she is eating the seeds.
However, soon I realize she was collecting the soft hair or silver threads of the thistles to make a nest. She fills up her mouth and went away for a while. Then she came back and did the same thing for many trips
I am so glad I get to see and learn about this behavior! It is an experience of a life time! It was an invaluable lesson from nature.
