My day today was an extended walk in the jungle. I wanted to get some photos of moss, lichen and whatever else presented itself to me. The first creature I ran into was a beautiful mot-mot bird looking for insects to eat along the path. After another night of rain the path was very slippery and beneath the top layer of fallen leaves was a wet muddy layer that caused me to walk slowly taking care not to fall with my camera. I live on the side of a steep hill so the path through the jungle right here has a steep drop on one side, that I would not want to fall down even with trees to break my fall.
The diversity of life here is just staggering. There is always something unexpected along the way. Something new that I am seeing for the first time ever in my life.
This is the strangest black fungus. It looks as if someone has painted it on the tree!
Then I ran into this little guy. To begin with I thought it was a shiny decaputated piece of metallic green fly of which they are many varieties. It seemed too small to be an entire entity. How wrong I was! As I zoomed into the photo I had taken I was amazed to see legs and full living beetle in all its glory! What an amazing find! I have never seen one of these before.
Above the trees the sky was cloudy mostly just odd patches of sun breaking through now and again. It is often the way during the rainy season, so even seeing the sun for just a few moments at a time is welcome.
After a long walk through the undergrowth my path eventually widened out , leading me downhill towards civilization and the beach beyond
Fishermen were out with fishing poles. Some days they use poles, other days just line, maybe it depends what they are fishing for?
I hope you enjoyed coming along on this excursion with me. I shot a bunch of video along the way that will feature in my latest JUNGLE JOURNAL on my YouTube channel. Keep your eyes peeled for that.
These were taken using my Canon PowerShot SX60 HS
