While on a little adventure to photograph an abandoned house I had a visit from one of the local species of deer here on Vancouver Island.
The deer population on Vancouver Island is an integral part of the natural balance that exist here. Deer may be viewed as a nuisance by some due to them eating the flowers out a garden but they are an important food source for several of the apex predators that roam the forests on the island especially cougars.
This particular young Black-tail Deer came out of the under brush and wandered through the tall grass as I was photographing the ear by building. Typically deer don't approach humans but due to our encroachment into their feeding and living areas these animals are becoming more and more used to humans. This one didn't stick around too long, had a snack and wandered back into the cover of the near by forest.
As these are wild animals, never try and feed them or approach in a hasty manner. They spook very easily and will bolt for the nearest cover. Long lens and patients as the most important tools for getting great images of these animals. Remember we are in their territory not the other way around.
