Here is my entry for Monday's Animal Photography contest organized by
I haven't had much to do with goats over the years having lived in suburbia most of my life. But there have been occasions when I have been within reaching distance of them and I remember being instinctively wary around them. I thought that goats were inclined to be aggressive, were unpredictable and prone to head butt and kick out at strangers. But that was before I met Billy. Billy lives with a few different animals on a farm not far from where I live and when I saw how handsome he was, I made up my mind I wasn't going home without a few good photos. I moved cautiously forward and he stopped grazing and looked up at me with large, brown, intelligent eyes. It was love at first sight.
Billy was as gentle as a lamb and loved human interaction. While I was distracted with getting my camera ready, Billy moved over to my husband and leaned up against him for a pat and a scratch behind his ears. It was an endearing scene. In between cuddles, he gave me three good profile shots.
Naturally, he couldn't say, "Thank you for the attention," but he did give us a very satisfied grin as we left him to finish his lunch.
