Recently Indonesia has reported the second death of a person eaten by a Python this year. The latest incident involves a woman who was out attending to her garden and she never came back. Villagers did a search of the area only to find a huge 23 foot snake with a massive bulge in the body.
Can you imagine a worse way to die than to be strangled by a massive beast and then eaten head first? How horrible! I have never been to Indonesia but apparently large snakes are very prevalent in this area of the world. Research has shown that it is very uncommon for people to be eaten by snakes but, the fact this is a possibility would give me major pause to outdoor wilderness activities in Indonesia. These snakes eat the prey whole by having the unique ability to expand their jaws and bellies, it’s almost something you have to see with your own two eyes to believe.
I have friends who live in south Florida near the Everglades who say this is slowly become a major problem in that area as well. Pythons and large lizards are not native to the south Florida area but, so many large snakes have been spotted by residents that the city now is holding snake round ups. Professional snake hunters have been brought to America from areas like Indonesia to help solve this epidemic. The large snakes are raised by people as pets at home and when they become too large to deal with, they take them out to the Everglades and release them. The snakes in the wild eat pets, pigs, deer, rabbits and just about anything they can get their mouth around.
If you live near the area in Indonesia where this happens, please comment below and educate me on the level of alertness you need knowing these snakes are around. Also please let me know what your village does to help eliminate these beasts from eating people and their pets.
