I ran across an interesting fact about chinchillas that contradicts the norm for most animals... Female chinchillas, on average, weigh more than male chinchillas!
Male chinchillas weigh an average of 400 – 500 grams ( or .9 – 1.1 pounds) while female chinchillas weigh 400 – 600 grams (or .9 – 1.3 pounds). Even though that weight difference is minor, I found it very interesting because most of the time males are the heavier of the two genders.
