We had a storm the other evening as the sun was setting. I walked out back to get a good look at the garden to make sure our water tote was collecting water properly. I look down and resting right in the middle of the doorway just out of view from getting rained on, resting in the dirt next to a puddle was this cute fat little red toad.
So I brought him inside and took these pictures of him. I've found many toads but not one that was this red. I think it is because the mud here is mostly red clay giving this toad this red look. These toads love to burrow in the mud and I do find toads as well as frogs sometimes hopping around the garden. Usually it is rainy days like this that draws them out. They like the stormy weather. It brings out the mosquitoes and here in Arkansas this time of year with the humidity, the mosquitoes are real bad. Which is why I'm always glad to see toads when I do. Toads, snakes, lizards, and skinks, are all welcome in my garden. Eat all the bugs and mosquitoes and vermin you want!!!
The cats of course all wanted to play with him LOL. They kept sniffing him out. Loki and Freya were sure interested in him.
After it stopped raining I went and let him go where I found him which was just outside in the backyard in the middle of the doorway. I put him next to the puddle so he could get a drink. After a few minutes I came back out to see if he was still there and he was gone. He more than likely hopped under the house. I'm sure I will see him again hopping around the yard, around the garden. If not then a cousin of his I'm sure :-).
How many more toads will I see this year?
As always I'm Theo Rainbow Man and here is the PROOF!
Proof of red toad.
